Welcoming Privacy Graphics for Primary School Reception

How one-way privacy film helped a Primary School create a calmer, more welcoming reception.

Barkisland C of E Primary School wanted its reception area to feel warm and welcoming whilst also giving pupils and staff greater privacy during the school day. Visitors could see through the glass panelled doors into the main school and through the reception hatch into the office, which sometimes created issues for staff and risked confidential paperwork being seen.

The Challenge

The layout of the school meant parents and visitors could immediately see into areas beyond reception. If they spotted the person they hoped to speak to, they could become frustrated when that member of staff was busy or unavailable. At the same time, the school office needed a simple way to protect sensitive information without making the entrance feel closed off or uninviting.

My solution

I created bespoke illustrations using the school’s sheep characters in colourful jumpers spelling out “welcome”, set against a countryside background reflecting the school’s rural location. The artwork also included the school logo, motto and welcoming text with the addition of office opening times on the sliding reception window. It was printed onto one-way privacy film and applied to the glass door panels and sliding office hatch, complementing the school’s existing reception wall graphics I had designed previously.

The outcome

The finished installation gave the school a brighter, friendlier entrance while reducing distractions and protecting privacy. Staff and pupils can still see out and benefit from natural light, but visitors can no longer see directly into the school or office until they are welcomed through. This is a great example of how one-way privacy film can be a practical, attractive way to improve safeguarding, confidentiality and the visitor experience at the same time.
