Creating Child-Friendly British Values Resources

Helping a primary school promote the fundamental British Values in a fun, accessible way.

Conisbrough Ivanhoe Primary Academy required child-friendly posters, certificates and stickers to help pupils remember and understand the basic British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance.

The Challenge

I needed to incorporate multiple design elements and text information but create designs that are easy for young children to understand and informative enough to support classroom conversations. They also needed to feel familiar to the children, coordinating with the academy’s existing vision and values materials, yet exciting and new.

The brief was to create posters, certificates and stickers that felt fun, memorable and complemented the school’s strong identity. The designs had to include the Academy’s Ivanhoe knight characters, shield shapes, hand imagery and the academy’s logo.

My solution

My concept was built around golden shields highlighting the British Values displayed against a red and blue Union Jack background, with the school’s knight characters holding up the main shield. I developed this idea across a coordinated set of A2 posters, A4 certificates and reward stickers. Each piece was adapted for how it would be used in school: the posters gave pupils a clear visual guide to each value, the certificates celebrated individual achievement, and the stickers offered a simple, eye-catching reward.

The final designs combined words, images and familiar school branding so that the Values felt accessible, positive and easy for pupils of different ages to recognise.

The outcome

Conisbrough Ivanhoe Primary Academy received a flexible, professional set of resources that helped make British Values visible across the school. The designs gave staff a practical way to reinforce the key messages in assemblies, classrooms and celebration moments, while giving pupils something bright, engaging and easy to remember.
